Dennis Lee Conner, son of Raymond Everett and Marjorie Shepard Conner, was born May 15, 1943, at Fayette, Iowa. He graduated from Fayette High School in 1962, and served with the U.S. Army from December of 1964 to December of 1966.
On December 31, 1964, he was married to Judy Salmon. They later divorced. He was married on December 5, 1983, to Cheryl Chase and later divorced.
Shortly after his return from military service, Dennis employed his own construction crew in the Fayette area until 1984, when he began working as a carpenter for Upper Iowa University in Fayette. He remained at Upper Iowa until 2006, when ill health forced him to retire. Three years ago he moved to Oelwein to make his home with his son, Robert and family. His death occurred there on Friday, September 30, 2011, following a lengthy illness. He was 68 years old.
Dennis had been a member of the Fayette American Legion, the Fayette Jaycees, and the Randalia Volunteer Fire Department. Among his many interests were spending time with his grandchildren, hunting, fishing, and shooting a game of pool.
He is survived by one son, Robert (Laura) Conner of Oelwein; three daughters, Georgia Conner of Oelwein, Connie Conner of Sumner, and Denise Conner of Oelwein; seven grandchildren; and two brothers, Darwin “Beezer” Conner of Fayette and Roger Conner of Postville.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Donald Conner; and one sister, Melva, who died in infancy.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 4, 2011, at Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Fayette with Rev. Carl Tenney officiating. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Monday, October 3, 2011, at Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Fayette and for one hour preceding services at the chapel on Tuesday. Interment will be at Lima Cemetery in rural Fayette.
